I consider myself a generally positive individual and strive to radiate this happy energy unto others on a daily basis. We should acknowledge that regardless of how difficult a situation may initially seem, it will eventually pass and the sun will shine brightly once again.
Being positive and content is a state of mind and body. Here are some rules I live by to stay happy.
Do what you love. Never waste time doing something that you aren’t passionate about. If you dislike something you’re doing, get out of there as fast as you can. Life is too short to waste energy on being miserable!
Surround yourself with supportive people. I cannot emphasize this enough. The right people make a major difference. If someone tries to belittle your dreams or insult your hard work, let them go. He/she is not worth it. Be with people who strengthen you and encourage you to be a better person each and every day.
Stay organized. Keeping your environment clean and orderly helps to reduce stress. Stress is actually a major factor in many illnesses, so it is good to avoid it as much as possible. Have a planner to write down daily assignments or make check lists to stay on track.
Be healthy. Practice a balanced diet and exercise a few times a week. It doesn’t have to be an immensely long workout; I sometimes do the 7-minute Workout (link) when I’m pressed for time – it really gets my heart rate going! Exercise releases endorphins into your bloodstream, a hormone that triggers a sense of contentedness and happiness. When you eat healthy foods, your brain functions better, as does your body. A healthy body and mind lead to a more positive self-image.
Set goals. Have ambitions and make plans to reach them. There is no such thing as too big a dream. If you can dream it, you can achieve it. Believe that you can, and you can. Nothing can hold you back if you truly want something!
Learn to let go. Letting go frees your heart, mind, and soul. There are 7 billion people out there and there are endless opportunities. Just because something ends does not mean there are no new beginnings. Doors close only to have others open next to you. Stop lingering by the closed ones; keep moving forward!
Indulge from time to time. Have that piece of cheesecake. Go on a massive shopping spree. Lounge in a warm bath with candles burning around you. Once in awhile, it is important to let loose and enjoy the moment. Just remember – everything in moderation and be responsible!
Live passionately. Whatever you do, do it with your heart. Whether it is simply taking notes in a class or running a marathon, put effort into it. When you work hard at everything, you feel that sense of self-satisfaction. You need not be the smartest student or the winner of contests. Just do your personal best.
Stop comparing. Comparison is the thief of joy. Remember that no one will truly be like you and you will never be like anyone else. You should do your own thing. Never put anyone on a pedestal and idolize them because in the end – no one is perfect. Live your life your way.
Love yourself. That is the most important factor. It is vital to realize how wonderful of a person you are – how beautiful, talented, and unique. There is only one “you” on this planet so embrace it and own yourself. Self-confidence and self-acceptance are the most vital components of happiness.
